Enfield Neighbors for Safe Air & Water welcomed two speakers on Monday, March 22nd to the Enfield Grange on Enfield Main Road. The public was invited to a presentation to help Enfield residents and community members better understand the process of natural gas drilling and the legal issues involved. We heard more about how drilling is done, the potential impact on our air and water, lease basics and landowner liability. Speakers were Helen Slottje, Attorney at Law,working for Community Environmental Defense Council, Inc., a nonprofit environmental law firm based in Ithaca, and Bill Podulka, Ph.D, Co-Director of The Marcellus Accountability Project.

Gas exploration banned
In 2011 ENSAW petitioned the residents of Enfield to ban the process of high-volume slick-water hydraulic fracturing. In 2013 the Town of Enfield implemented a law banning gas and petroleum exploration along with production wastes. We are so very proud of our town and its residents.

2017 and beyond
With a gas exploration ban in place, ENSAW is now pursuing various projects aimed at helping Enfield residents conserve energy and save money. Over the coming months, watch for information about community solar, LED light bulbs, Energy Navigator training and much more.
